One day in August last year, I finished sightseeing in the area of Kuryong Pool and was coming down with the tourists at nearly midday.
The ecstasy of Kuryong Pool they had just seen excited them so deeply that they talked about the impressions all the way coming down along the sightseeing path.
Suddenly I heard two of them talking in a loud voice.
“Oh, it's already lunchtime. A proverb says that even the best of scenery is to be seen after eating, so let’s have lunch quickly, and then go to Sea Kumgang in the afternoon.”
“Yeah, time really flies. I want to see the scenery of Mt Kumgang even one more without leaving regret on this occasion.”
Like this they weren't yet satisfied to see Kuryong Pool alone.
It's a common idea that whoever comes to Mt Kumgang wants to see the famous mountain without regret.
Hearing them, however, I was reminded of the touching story left by anti-Japanese heroine Kim Jong Suk in the area of Kuryong Pool.
In September 1947 Kim Jong Suk came to Mt Kumgang accompanying President Kim Il Sung.
She wanted to see the scenery of Kuryong Pool, the most noted place in Mt Kumgang, but she put off sightseeing of Kuryong Pool and on Singye Bridge(then name) turned back her steps towards the lodging to prepare a lunch for the President.
This matter weighed so heavily on President Kim Il Sung’s mind that later when he came to Kuryong Pool again, he sorrowfully recollected that although he suggested her to go up, Kim Jong Suk turned back and went down to prepare for a lunch, saying that she would come later, but she passed away without seeing Kuryong Pool again.
During the anti-Japanese war, Kim Jong Suk stayed up all night with comrades-in-arms and imagined the beautiful Mt Kumgang in her mind, saying that all would enjoy to the full in the liberated fatherland.
But she valued the work for the President more above the fantastic sightseeing, so she turned back without regret.
The story left by her that day, as a model of what an attitude and a stand towards the leader ought to be, is deeply kept in Korean people's hearts until today.
Today the Korean people are faithfully upholding the leadership of Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un who is just like President Kim Il Sung and General Kim Jong Il, keeping in mind the noble model she showed that day.
Sure it is.
Following the noble spirit of Kim Jong Suk who remained faithful to the President, we will do our best in upholding the lofty will of Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un who is leaving the trace of devotion for the Korean people.
